Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave

Massachusetts passed laws covering Paid Family and Medical Leave. These laws go into effect October 1, 2019. More information about the law can be found here. If you are unsure whether the law applies to your organization, review the website.

This law is not a blanket calculation and is not included in any CYMA update, but can be configured within CYMA using localities. This example is for companies over 25 employees, if you have under 25 employees the PML (medical leave) would be 0.

  1. Make a Locality in Maintain Configuration called "Paid Family Medical Leave"
  2. Make two (2) Local Income Tax features in Maintain Configuration
    1. MA PFL  (family)
    2. MA PML (medical)
  3. Assign the "Paid Family Medical Leave" locality to the LIT features
  4. Assign the 2 features to the employees as in the screen shots below

Note: Pay attention to the percentages and Wage Base Limits - specifically in Maintain Wage Calculations to ensure appropriate wages are not set to Subtract.
